What is a Session.
A session is a series of user interactions with a web application that occur within a specific time frame. Normally, the client browser and host server are far away, like when you log onto your online banking web application. The bank’s server creates a session to hold information identifying you. Each time you navigate to a page, the server knows who you are by a session key and can retrieve information specific to your account by the data stored in session. Each interaction resets the timeout clock. When there is no interaction for a specified duration of time, the session expires and you are logged out.
An InspectX session
With InspectX, the application is installed on a Windows computer which normally acts as both the client browser and host server. In some cases, like when using an iPad, the iPad is the client and the Windows machine, on which InspectX is installed, is the server. So long as both the client and server are awake and the InspectX browser window is open, the system will keep the session alive automatically. However, if your client or server go to sleep for more than 10 minutes, the session will expire and InspectX can’t remember the configuration and project last selected.
If you lose session while working in InspectX you will receive an error message when attempting to navigate the application or save an entry. In most cases, it will return to the Project Dashboard and require you to select a project to pick up where you left off. If you’re on a page, like the Entry Detail or Findings Detail page, which allows for data input, the system will give you the opportunity to copy the contents of the input box to the clipboard to ensure you don’t lose your data.
If you find your client and/or server are going to sleep while surveying vessels, you can change your Power & Sleep settings on machine(s) to prevent them from going to sleep or increasing the time period before going to sleep.
