‘Substitute variables’ are utilized to automatically fill sections of information that may be repeated in several places throughout your report.
For example, the ‘Vessel Year’ is likely to be repeated numerous times, and rather than manually type this for each occurrence, you can create a Substitute Variable which is automatically inserted.
In version1 of InspectX this was done by utilizing brackets that look like this:
This often resulted in confusion and surveyors would unknowingly edit inside these brackets and break their link to the source data (more on that below).
In version 2, this has been improved by showing the exact text that will be automatically inserted surrounded by a blue or red dotted outline.
Text inside these blue dotted rectangles can only be edited at their source.
The source of these fields can be found in the Project Data section, and the additional headings added to this section should offer more flexibility for custom changes in the future.
You can explore the options for which substitute variables are available by using the drop-down menu in the upper right of any entry page with the ‘x’ symbol.
